Co-morbid Conditions
ADHD is rarely seen in a "pure" form. In many cases, other symptoms or behaviours are present alongside the ADHD characteristics. These may originate from distinct, but connected, issues with brain function, or they may arise as a result of the difficulties encountered by the person with ADHD in conforming and performing in a range of settings such as school, the workplace and home.
Such additional symptoms are referred to as "co-morbid conditions" and may include opositional defiant behaviour, anxiety, depression and in some cases, conduct disorder.
More information on this topic will be added shortly. See also "Oppositional Behaviour" in the Treatment pages.
